How to become a security guard in Montana

Montana Private Security Guard License (Board of Private Security)

Montana licenses individuals directly (mode: ic) and sole proprietors are allowed, but the checklist still requires an employment relationship — even with your own registered security firm — to satisfy §37-60-303 MCA.

  3. 3Submit fingerprints for a background checkMontana Department of Justice + FBI criminal-history check.

Montana Armed Endorsement (Board of Private Security)

Separate from Montana's permitless-carry law for private citizens — this on-duty endorsement (37-60-301 MCA) is required regardless of whether you already carry concealed.
