Licensing in Alberta
In Alberta, security licences are issued by the Alberta Security Programs. Event security professionals you hire through XGuard in Calgary must hold the licence the work requires.
What a professional needs before they can work in Alberta:
- Be over 18, eligible to work in Canada, fluent in English (Canadian Language Benchmark level 5), with no criminal record.
- Complete an approved course and score 80 or higher on the provincial exam.
- Fee CAD 100, valid 2 years; a CAD 9 service charge applies when applying at a registry agent.
XGuard verifies licences by document review and, where the regulator publishes a lookup, against that lookup. A professional's profile goes live only after their licence is checked.
